Calendar of Events

We plan a number of great events throughout the year. Participating in these events with us is the best and quickest way to create new and lasting friendships. There are two separate Calendar Of Event pages for IFO. One is for those who live and study in Little Rock and the other is for those in the Conway area.

(If you live in Conway, see: IFO CONWAY CALENDAR OF EVENTS.)

Watch for updates to the calendars we're always planning something fun to do!

CONVERSATION CLUB

Practice conversational English and learn about others as they learn about you!

How would you like to join us for a weekly dinner and some good conversation with Americans and other internationals?  This event will help you learn, practice, and develop good conversational English skills---along with the use of some American idioms.  You will also have the opportunity to teach others about your culture while learning about theirs.

You may ask, "What is Conversation Club"?
Let me explain:
  • It's Americans and Internationals coming together.
  • It's Conversational English done in creative ways.
  • It's American Idioms and practicing language skills.
  • It's dinner each week prepared by some very nice women from IFO.
  • It's sharing culture, country, and family.
  • It's meeting new people each week.
  • It's developing lasting friendships.
  • It's learning about others.
  • It's others learning about you.
  • And It's FREE

We are looking forward to spending time each week with our internationals friends.  We hope that you will come and join us and let us get to know you.  See photos of our 2007 group.

BUFFALO RIVER CANOE TRIP

When: Saturday, June 14, 2008

Where:  Buffalo National Scenic River

Time:  8:00AM until evening

Cost:  $30 (covers canoe rental, snacks and drink while on the river)

You are invited to join us to canoe American’s first National River, the magnificent Buffalo.

The Buffalo River cuts its way through massive limestone bluffs eastward through the Arkansas Ozarks Mountains.  Although the Buffalo stretches over 150 miles, we will make a day trip out of an easy six mile float on crystal clear waters.  The weather will be hot and the water will be cool.  It’s going to be a perfect day to canoe, swim, and enjoy each other.  After a long day on the river, we will eat dinner at a famous little restaurant in the Buffalo River valley.

The cost of the trip is $30 and non-refundable.  Once we have received your $30, your place on this trip will be reserved.  This covers the cost of the canoe rental and charges, transportation, snacks, and drinks while on the river.  You will need a little extra money for your evening meal.  We will canoe rain or shine.

Please bring:

  • A sack lunch + one bottled water

  • Swim wear, towel, sunscreen

  • Swim shoes:  These are not necessary but useful on rocky surfaces. They are cheap at any discount store.

  • Extra money for your evening meal.

For more information or to reserve your place, contact LaJuana@IFOarkansas.org

For more information on the beautiful Buffalo River, check out their website at http://www.nps.gov/buff/

LAKE OUACHITA "A DAY ON THE LAKE"

When:  Saturday:  July 12, 2008

Where:  Lake Ouachita in Hot Springs, Arkansas

Time:  9:00 AM

Cost:  $20

This is the IFO event of the year.  We do many things with internationals, but this is the one event that our friends seem to enjoy the most.  Each year we load up our cars and vans to carry internationals to Lake Ouachita, which is located in Hot Springs, Arkansas.

Lake Ouachita is one of the many beautiful lakes of Arkansas.  You will enjoy a picnic on an island, a day of boating, skiing, tubing, and swimming.  We always take lots of water toys to fill the day with loads of fun.

Mark your calendar now and sign up early to join us for some “Fun In The Sun”.  For more information or to reserve your place, contact LaJuana@IFOarkansas.org

THANKSGIVING DAY WITH AN AMERICAN FAMILY
Thursday, November 27, 2007
Time schedule is different with each family

Thanksgiving is an American holiday celebrated by all.  It's a special time when Americans give God thanks for His blessings.  It's also a time of family celebration filled with traditional foods shared with special friends.  From the first Thanksgiving celebrated to the present, this holiday brings people from different customs and cultures together.

Want to know more about American holidays and traditions?  Would you like to be invited into an American family's home and experience what the Thanksgiving holiday is all about?  If so, e-mail LaJuana at friends@IFOArkansas.org  and you'll be matched with a very kind family.  Be sure to tell us if you live in Little Rock or Conway.

CHRISTMAS CELEBRATION PARTY

WHEN: Friday, December 5.

WHERE: To be annouced.

Christmas is a favorite holiday for many Americans.   There’s even a song that says, “It’s the most wonderful time of the year”.

Although it is celebrated differently by many families, it carries special meaning to Christians as we celebrate the birth, and life, of Jesus Christ.

All of America is filled with lights and special holiday decorations, traditional music & foods, and meaning times with friends and families.  We want you to experience the “Christmas Spirit” with us.  Please come and join us for a very special celebration party, planned “with you in mind”.  Let’s not forget that Christmas is all about a gift.  Every international will receive a gift as we explain why the gift is so much a part of the celebration.

Also, if you would like to spend some time during the Christmas holiday break with an American family, just let us know.  We have families that would love to have you in their homes.

The meaning of Christmas.
